Iā€™ve been out of the hobby for about 20 years and just starting to get back into it. I just started to do some research on the Senegal Bichir and really want to have two of them in a 75 gal tank they are being sold at about an inch and a half to two inches long. I also would like to add maybe two Jack Dempsey which are about the same size currently. Is this possible or am I only asking for trouble? The water and temperature parameters are almost the same. If the Dempsey wouldnā€™t work out what would be a good addition?

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

The Jack Dempsey will eat the birchirs.

Oh really they are about the same size. What mixes well with the bichirs?

Jack Dempsey grow big and are aggressive. They might get along when 1 inch long but when the Jack Dempsey reaches 10-12 inches, it will eat things.

Birchirs can be kept with peaceful fish that are too big to fit in its mouth. Fish that are tall rather than narrow make better companions because they are less likely to be looked at as food.
