Setting up my new tank last night and got it all fixed up, substrate, water in and filter and thermostat on. Left it for the night and then woke up this morning to notice a scratch on the front glass, just to left about an inch up from the middle of the tank.

I`m almost certain it isn`t a crack since it is very superficial and no-one will notice it, but i will, every time i look at the tank!!! Is there any way to get rid or is that it? Also, its a jewel system, so could i not take the black box off and turn the tank around, so the back will be the front?

Chris

Hi Chris,

Sorry to hear you have a scratch in your tank! We also have a Juwel tank - and we have taken the black box out completely and opted for an external filter - but i'm sure you could take it off and turn the tank round - the only problem is the cutouts on the back for leads etc etc they would be visible at the front :/

If the tank is brand new - maybe you could take it back as damaged?

Hope you sort it,

Lesley

Hi chris,
Just to elaborate on what lesley said, i also have a juwel tank which had scratches on the front so i took the filter out and put it on the front, then switched it round. The top part which has the cut-outs can actually be taken off and be flipped round too (it is held down in the 4 corners by a little dab of silicone so with a little coaxing with a very fine flat screwdriver or a razor blade you can pull it free) and i also managed to get my 'Juwel' badge off as well and stuck it on the back with a little super glue - Perfect!! There is no way to tell its been switched round.
Hope this helps
Doug

Hopefully it's on the outside and you can polish it out by hand. And if it's a light scratch, you can try using toothpaste as a polish --- not on the inside with the fishs' water, of course.

Wnedy, can you explain more, its only a light scratch and yes its on the outside!! can you give me more instructions since i dont dare touch it incase i make it worse!!! However when i first saw it i thought about the possibility of buffing it out!!

Chris

That's great for you that scratch is on the outside. If it's a light scratch... Just put some toothpaste on your finger tip and rub on it in a circular motion; just use your finger. Do that for 15-30 seconds; wipe off with water and repeat if necessary. I have polished many watch face crystals using toothpaste; it's amazing how good it works sometimes. Also I wouldn't worry about making it worse --- toothpaste is a very mild polish.
