It was a fungus through lack of maintenance basically, thought the filter would deal with it while I was away for a few days as I was told it was mature and the florabase gives off ammonia so came back to a mess.

And I know it says new as in I got a new filter as in new to me lol, there is no way I'd fork out for an Eheim for a tiny 35L.

So you assumed the filter would take care of the ammonia produced by the florabase?

For a few days yeah, I was wrong. Never mind tho it was re scaped yesterday.
