Hi all

I'm setting up a new tank which is 120cm long 62 cm wide and 55cm high as a Blackwater Amazon biotope tank and need some advice. I've chosen my main fish and am now debating bottom dwellers I have my eye on a group of 5 Satanoperca Jurupari at my work that I could get for a bargain price but I'm wondering if a 4ft tank will be enough for the group?

The other fish in the tank would be some seriously large False Rummynose and Peruvian Altum (not really altums I know ;p) angels.

Any comments welcomed.

I've read you can keep them in a 4 ft tank but also just found this:

Generally a peaceful cichlid, though at the end of the day they are still a cichlid. May prey on small fish that they can fit in their mouths, like Neon Tetras. It is quite likely that when housed with other Satanopercoids, they will fight. Jurupari are a grouping fish and therefore prefer the companionship of 5 or more other Jurupari. Naturally, a huge tank (7ft at the very smallest) is required for this sort of feat.

All I know is that I was always advised to keep Cichilds in species only tanks rather than mix with other types of fish but I'm sure someone with more experience will be able to advise better than I can.

Hi Lunar

I also read that regarding the 7ft and was left slightly confused. I'm not worried about them eating or harrasing the other fish It's the question of whether the 4ft gives them adequate space.

The tank will be running 2 external cannisters the Eheim Pro 3 2180 which is currently running my tropical setup as well as a Fluval FX6 so filtration isn't an issue but I was unsure if space would be a limiting factor.

Jurupari need a lot of space. 4ft isn't alot of space. If you like Geo type fish then look for one of the smaller species such as Megasema or Pindare.
