I just recently got 6 new cichlids, a shell dwelling species called Neolamprologus brevis. They require a sand sucstrate because of their urge to dig. Well this is my first time with a sand tank it was running 6 weeks b4 i added fis and the levels were fine so i added fish. Well now it looks like i just added more sand or something like they is a haze. I tested the water chem and it was fine but it's been a cupple days and doesnt seem to clear any ideas what it could be?

Just a suggestion, but did you wash out the sand really good before dumping it into the tank? I only ask because, if you didn't with all the movement going on. All the junk and dust is moving around now.

Sounds like it's a bacteria bloom rather than anything related to the sand. Couple of water changes should sort it out, it's nothing to worry about.

thanks guys i figured it was just a bacterial bloom but i thought i would ask and make sure. And yes i did wash the sand about 5 times b4 i put it into the tank.
