help,

i ve got a 55 gal reef/fish tank and a QT tank for the new or sick fish. i bought some new fish 1 leamon peel angel and 1 black percula clown brought them home and put them in to the QT because i ve had some problems with ich before so not to risk other fish getting sick. after about one day i noticed some white spots on the lemon peel but i thought that she would get better because the two cleaner shrimp i have in there cleaned it all off of her the next day she died anyway so i took her back to the fish store and got a yellow tang. got home and was confused weather to put her in the QT because i know it has ich or the 55 gal. didn't want to take the risk so she is in th QT with the clown every one looked good but the clown was scraping but no spots. today i noticed the clown has littel black looking spots on 1st white line on head i thought it was from scraping up against the sand but now just woke up and looks like a very thin string of white poo coming from clown if anyone kmows anything thanks.

nik,

how is the yellow tang? any signs of the same problems?
if not, your better off letting the lfs hold that for you for now until you have isolated the problems with your clown fish and qt tank in general, you dont want to loose both if you can help it!
whats are the stats of your qt tank?

the QT is a 2o gal tank the water seems fine when i test it but the nitrite is at .1 but this is not the probelem because it always seems to be at that, ammoina 0 ph 8.2-8.3 using nutrafin tests for all dont know what nitrate is dont have test kit for that but is fairly new tank so it shouldnt be high. the tang is in the QT like i said in first mess i was confused wether or not to put it in the QT because the clown and leamon peel were in there the leamon peel died of ich so i knew ther was ich in tank there are cleaner shrimp in tank and no signs of ich on either except the clown is scraping up against the sand i ve done some searching on internet but only saw one topic on this site but on tropical fish were they were having the same problem and thought it was tapeworm please help

ps tang is in QT and clown two cleaner shrimp but no signs of trobel on tang but worried if it is something it might spred the tank has been up for two and a half months thanks

thats why i said it might be best to take the tang back until u know what the problem is as he is at risk from infection at the mo, clownfish are usually pretty hardy against ich but it does sound like that is what it is to me, the tang is much more susceptable to this than the clown so if it is that your better to get him outa there.

i dont think its tapeworm you would have other signs, do the fish accept food when offered?

what temp is your qt tank? im presuming somewhere around the 25-26 mark? increasing this slightly and SLOWLY can kill the free swimming ich bacteria, somewhere around 28-29 but like i say to this over a period of time! they guys u have in there will be ok at this temp dont exceed 30 though

watch the clown see if his condition improves and report back :good:

the QT is at 80 f and the salinty 1.023 the fish store is not going to take my fish back for awhile so do you think i should take it out and in to my big tank its been in the QT with the clown for about 1 week so im scared that if it was tapeworm is this contagious the angel that died had white spot ich the clown that is scraping had no spots thought he was getting ich but never did get white spots but has black spot looking marks on head and white stripe and had white poo coming out which has fallen off since i started talking i have two other black clowns in the big tank and have never seen this from them thanks for your help

they are eating fine too

bit stingey of your fish shop not too take it back your trying too look after your fish the best u can!

what fish do you currently have in your display tank? inverts? corels etc? its not ideal to have to put the yellow tang in there but depending on what you have it my be the only option?

the 55 gal has 1 firefish two black percula clowns and one yellowhead jawfish two bubbletip anenomes and six small blue leg hermit crabs one turbo snail and 16 pounds of live rock witch ive noticed some very tiny feather dusters.

been up and running for 3 months
if you think my clown has ich then what do you think the black spots are and the white poo what should i think of this unnormal activity

ps there are and have never been any white spots on the clown i know that there is a thing called black ich but the reason i thought it was ich is cause the fish [angel] that died had it i thought that white and black ich were different kinds the can white turn to black and if so what to do the cleaner shrimp dont tuch the black spots ive read that black ich is supposed to be mobile but the clown had three spots on one side then two on top of head and now on other side and have not moved thanks for toyr info

dont have any coarls but plan to in near future

Turbellarian Infection - AKA black ich

the two strains normal itch and black ich can go hand in had but the more dominant will reveal itself on the fish
if it is black ich this is bad news for the yellow tang, another name for the black ich is tang disease :S

so if it is that youll so know about it as the tang will have it very quickly!

it could just be a bacterial infection of some discription there are so many!

one other option is remove your shrimp from the qt tank put them in the main tank, then ur free to used copper based meds in the qt tank to heal the two guys in there up (unless theres live rock in there)

if thats a bit extreme, get some fish food with garlic in its great for treating bacterial infections :good:
