Hi,

Seriously considering getting a (pair of) sajica to go with my 12 tiger barbs, 6 boesemani and 6 3-line corys in my 215L tank. I have read various posts/sites that they are quite peaceful and some sites even said they are ok in a community tank as a pair. Just want to get more opinion on the topic. Thanks.

You should be ok with the tigers & rainbows, if they breed you may get problems with the sajica attacking the corys as they go bumbling along too close to the eggs. They are relatively peaceful but my experience with them is they are tough little cookies, the pair I was looking after were only little and bullied a much larger oscar and red spot severum.

So should I "risk" getting a pair or would a single one be a better option in your opinion? My biggest worry is whether the mid-size cichlid will eat my barbs, which are still on the smaller size. If they won't then I think I might give a pair of them a go on the proviso that I can return one of them if it doesn't work out. I am quite friendly with the LFS so shouldn't be a problem. My corys are still hiding in corners even though I have 6 of the same species. They have been in for only 24 hours and are scattered around the tank. Hopefully when they find each other they will be a bit more bold...

Should be just fine. Most Sajicas available in LFS are pretty tiny anyway, so even if your barbs are really small at the moment, they should be safe.
By the time the sajicas are any size at all, your barbs should have grown enough to easily be too big to be a sajica meal.

Sajicas are great BTW !

Thanks. The problem is the only sajica available in my LFS are on the larger side (3" I think). They look like they have small mouths but that could be deceiving I think!. Anyway I have just got the 6 boesemani and 6 corys over the last 2 days so need to wait for my bacterial to catch up first...

You should be ok with a pair, the 2 I looked after did a bit of chasing, but your set up is better than having a pair in with a nosey oscar! bugging them
