So sorry for your loss. We recently lost our oldest cat in a similar fashion. She was having trouble breathing and we took her to the vet, who noticed an abnormal heart rate and weird breathing. He gave her two shots to see if it would help her. It didn't. The next day she was like this:

WARNING: ILL ANIMAL. VIEWER DISCRETION !! Sensitive viewers probably should NOT watch.

She deteriorated SO quickly within 24 hours. Sad to see indeed. In retrospect, we should not have returned home with her the first visit. But she had asthma and we thought maybe something would help her as it had before... but it was probably just heart failure looking back.

She did NOT make it to the vet visit to be euthanized the next day and died at home that day, which had us all feeling bad because we never wanted her to suffer that way. With euthanasia, it's better a week too soon than a day too late. We learned that the hard way indeed.

Blue there was over 20 years old and I had her since she was an 8 week old kitten due for euthanasia the next day due to being unwanted at the local shelter. She had a big red X over her card at the shelter, when we asked what it meant... the lady said that it meant she was due to be euthanized the next day. So we got her. She lived a long life and we did love her. I will miss her.
