Well, not only did I lose my betta, but I just found my oldest platty just went to the great fish tank in the sky 
He had a long (2 years) and fruitful (loads of offspring) life and I think he died of old age - well at least I hope he did Ah well, he left a well stocked tank - full of baby platties
