I have a mid-range brackish tank setup which has metal hinges on the inside of the hood for the lid to open. The screws which hold the hinges are rusting and I am worried that the condensation on the hood will mix with the rust and drip back into the tank. If so, do you think it would harm the GSP I have in there? At the moment I am cleaning the rust off every few day.

i did have sheet steel supports for my glass slider for a few weeks in which time they went rusty, i'm assuming they might of dripped a bit in as there were quite messy when i made some out of acrylic instead. there's been no adverse affects to the tank yet, i reakon i would of found out pretty qwuick if there was with sting rays in there.

the 1 metal to watch out for is copper or any metal containing copper this is toxic to any invertebrates and not too healthy for fish either.

would it be possible to put a condensation tray between water and hood?

Yes that is a good idea, will do that tonight. Thanks.

I dunno if this would work or be dangerous but what about vaseline?

Perhaps silicone over the parts of the hinge that don't move.

Probably vaseline isn't such a good idea.
