Panaque Nigrolineatus is an increasingly popular Loricariid that has been in the hobby for quite some time. It has an almost cartoonish appearance (could almost base a Pokemon on one).
They grow to an average length of about 12" in aquaria but get up to 2ft in the wild!
They need driftwood in aquaria because, believe it or not, they eat it as part of their diet. They also take the standard fare of Courgette (Zuccini), cucumber and meaty foods such as Prawns and cockles. They need excellent filtration because the bigger they get, the messier they get! You will have wood particles and droppings everywhere! Not to put you off though because they are fantastic fish worth every little bit of the extra effort it takes to keep them. They will not tolerate other Loricariids or agressive bottom feeders very well though unless in a very spacious tank that affords enough territory. They are, other than that though, very gentle giants and can even be kept with Neon Teras (even when full grown)!!
