I'm susi and i am a new aquarium owner! Christmas brought me a 25 gallon tank with platy fish, guppy fish and an aquatic frog... i am eager to learn the things thst will give my beloved fishes the most comfortable and enjoyable life, and i thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge and expertise...being a life long equine freak, i am delighted to have something in the house to fuss over. Thanks and peace!

ooh! cool! pics? what is the hardness of your water, guppies and platies like it harder (above 200)

Hi Susi and welcome to the forum :)

It's a good idea to know what the pH, GH & KH of you water is. The GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply can usually be obtained from your water supply company's website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).

The following link has information about what to do if your fish get sick. It's long and boring but worth a read when you have some spare time.

Hi, not sure what the water tests are, I'm out in the woods on a well and so far everyone seems to be happy, And someone's having relations because there are many, MANY little fishes in there now. I am setting up another tank, after this no more co-ed for a while!

Welcome to the forum, and the hobby! :D

Ah, co-ed housing... lol! I'm afraid you'll be getting lots more baby fish for a while yet, even if you separate the girls from the boys. Female livebearers like guppies and platies store sperm packets once they've mated once, so they keep popping out fry for quite a long time even with no males around....

On the plus side, aawww! Baby fish! And it's fun to see what youngsters they produce :)

:hi:
