Rocks And Wood Off The Ground

hello, you all have been so helpful thus far but I do have many questions still. for aquascaping can I just pick wood and rocks off the ground and put them in the aquarium, I will of course wash them off and soak the wood in water but is that all I have to do. I am worried that I will kill all the good bacteria in my tank,

Better safe than sorry I'd buy wood/rocks you can trust.

thats a bummer but it is better safe than sorry I suppose. its just so expensive to buy the pretreated wood at the store. if I find rocks can I wash them off in a bleach solution then rinse them off like crazy to clean them?
