I was mowing the lawn today and passed the AC. Then I saw a dragonfly. And we have tons of dragonflies. But in recent years and weeks I've noticed a large (quite literally) difference. They have been getting larger. The one on the AC was about 5-6 inches!! Now back in the Carboniferous period there was a giant dragonfly looking creature called Meganeura that was part of a closely related member of the dragonfly family called griffinflies. Keep in mind this was 299 million years ago or more. The wingspan was 2 and half feet and when stood up on its tail, it was as high as a tall man's waist.
But this isn't the beast I meant, as giant as that is. I'm talking about something called the Titanoboa that lived in the Paleocene Epoch period about 80 million years ago.
This thing was a beast at about 50ft long. And you want to know the supposed cause of extinction? Climate DROP.
Some scientists believe that due to rising temps snakes and other animals may start growing larger.
Could the anaconda become the next titanoboa?
Hopefully not, but it would be very interesting. It's almost like Jurassic World, except it's not on the screen
