Which is best, Riccia or java?

Am i right in saying Java will attach its self to both rock and wood, but riccia wont?

I notice people seem to like riccia carpets and walls in their tanks more so than java....why?

And where is the best place to get a quantity for cheap? My LFS does not have any!

Riccia is very light green , java moss is darker. Riccia is primarily a floating plant. I ordered some online (eBay), about a size of a golf ball, for £5

Its doubled in size in about a month, but i expect better growth when my CO2 is up and going.

I was seriously considering putting Astro Turf on the back of my tank....still might, lol :D

I guess it's the light green appeal then!

I just ordered mesh kit off eBay for setting up a nice carpet.

I've tried a few things in my tank, but nothing has made my true carpet yet which is annoying! Thought i'd try this and see how I get on

Yeah i was going to have a go at the carpet thing myself but i wanted to see if it would grow in my tank before i shelled out on the extras.

Riccia doesn't attach to anything, whereas Java moss does. Both need trimming, how much depends on how much ferts and co2 you use: the more you use the more regularly it will need trimming to keep it in check. Personally, I like the look of riccia more, but I know for a fact I could never keep it as I'm too lazy/forgetful/distractible/<insert reason here why it wouldn't get the care it needed!> There's riccia being sold in the classified section at the moment - you'll probably get a better deal than ebay...

I had a look in the classifies, but they have all be sold :/

Riccia looks so good but it's a floating plant that always wants to float. When planting use some type of netting to keep it tied down not just string. If you use a net type thing it will stay better for you.

There are many people that regret ever getting to stuff it's like duckweed. It takes over when you turn your back. Java moss is less stressful and easy to contol more so then riccia but riccia looks so good give it a try but I warned you. If my HC does not take off I might try riccia.

once you have riccia you'll never get rid of it!

I always had 1 leaf left over somewhere and a few weeks later I would notice a small bush growing in a different place lol
