I upgraded our 3 red ear sliders from a 10 gallon tank to a 30 gallon, I originally bought a submersible filter along with a whisper power filter 10. The tank stays clean and clear (I replace cartridges every 2-3 months) but Iā€™ve been thinking about upgrading the filter as well . What would be a good filter for 3 res? Btw, I am considering making my own canister filter but I want to check other options first.
thanks

Well, I went for the 4ā€ pvc filter and I submerged the powerhead in the tank. Iā€™ve had it plugged in for a few and there are no leaks. It was frustrating but Iā€™m glad it worked out in the end. Itā€™s full of 3 types of foams, bio balls and activated carbon. Itā€™s very quiet...the only thing I can hear in the background is Jeremy Wade lol. Sorry, I do like fishing.

Nice set up. When I used a filter I had a simple sponge filter. I do 90-95 water change every week. I have two 25 year old RES in a 20 gallon long that sits by a bay window so they get plenty of sun. In summer I have a kids pool for them to swim in on my back deck.

Nice, I like my RES. I did notice that the water stays cleaner than in my 10 gallon tank. Mine catch sun rays from the window. I still want to throw in some decorations.
