Just looking at this Rena XP4 seeing as it has 100 bucks off it at the moment.

Would it be good for my 4 x 2 x 2 tank? Also are Rena any good?

Cheers. :good:

P.S. I know it's for like a 600L to 1000L tank, but it's cheaper than the XP3 which is 250L to 600L... I should only get better filtration yes?

EDIT:

i have been happy with all of the rena products that i have bought in the past, so i'd go for it.

cheers :good:

What about the fact that the filter is like way big for the tank?

the more filtration the better really :good: i have an xp3 and cany fault it on anything although i have heard that rena had problems with the xp4 leaking.....

The filtration may say its for 600-1000L tanks but it couldn't even cope on my 475L and it was replaced after just 3 months,(did mention this on your heater thread). I found mine got blocked way too easily and at any rate for a 4x2x2 your really looking at nearer 2 of these unless you are just keeping a few neons and similar small fish

From that site I have heard very good things about these, Wish they were available in the UK
I would go with one of those and possibly one of the cheaper canisters that do at least 1000Lph,

I voted no not because its a Rena but because its the XP4, which members have mentioned having leaking problems.

All the smaller Rena cannisters are top rate and I would put them in second place, tied with Tetratec and behind only Eheim Pro cannisters.

Man o Man, why does everyone say different things hahha. So they have a history of leaking? NOOOO!

Looks like it will be a judgement call. I really didn't want to have to buy 2 cannisters though I am tight for cash at the moment.

I have a XP3 on a 55 gal (48"x12"x18") mine is almost 5 years old. This filter is not overkill on this tank, nor is it too little IMO. It can create quite the current. Mine does leak a little. It depends how much water is in the motor housing. It usually has a small leak going after I clean it, coming out right where the power cord goes in. It always goes away within an hour of the filter running. The leak may or may not come back if you leave the filter off, but attached to the tank. Any leaks from where the motor top connect to the plastic bottom are issues with the O-ring. Make sure you clean it and have it seated properly when you put it back together.

My Rena sits in a rubbermaid bin. The bin can catch 3-4 gallons of water with the filter in it. This is cuz its in a daycare. OMG you should see what happens when a kid pulls the hose quick release or one of the 4 clamps .

get it.. brilliant filters, i had one on a 450l and water was perfect ( even tho the tank was overstocked) i wouldnt have normally gone and bought one but it came with a setup and now i wouldnt hesitate to get another :)

i didnt have any issues with leaks.. and it was at least a yr old when i had it :)
