just a quick question on refilling my tank

how do you get the temp of the water to match that of the tank beofre u put it in or just add it slowly back into the tank and let the heater just warm it up. will the later with the addition of cold water affect the fish

with the declorinator do u add the full amount before u start to refill the tank and that will do the job

If the water change is less thatn 30% of the tanks volume there isn't really any need to match the temperature, just add the dechlorinator if you wish to.

You should ideally try to use water that is somewhat close to what the fish have become acclimated to, if they are in 72 degree water and you dump in 30 degree water right out of the tap, it at the very least will not be comfortable for awhile in there, and could cause some stress which in turn can cause all kinds of stress related diseases, such as ICK. Imagine if you were taking a bath, in 80 degree water, and were nice and snuggly, then someone drained out 30 percent of it and dumped ice cold water back in. Not so pleasant
