My new external filter came today, another tetratec to add to my growing lot

The ex600 is on my 10 gal tank, its a fairly strong output,so i've turned the tap down to reduce the flow has the gouramis are struggling to keep upright...

Will turning the tap on the outlet flow affect the filter in any way?

Thanks :)

Well that filter is really for a 60+ ltr tank, so 13+ UK Gallons.

I would personally reduce the input rather then the output. How about putting a spray bar on the output so it spreads the outflow across a large area? That should make life easier for your fish. Especially Labyrinth fish.

I have the spraybar on there already, its certainly a gutsy filter...

Bargain at £46 - so not complaining :)

You could try pointing the output towards the glass, this could spread the flow out a little bit.

The output is so powerful,if pointed down it kicks the sand up  so now ive put the outlet about inch under water and its angled upwards to break the surface...

Zooplus - its on offer anyway and i got my dad to order it,first time order he got £6 off using voucher code :)

filters also eheims cheap on there at mo :)

Voucher code for £6 off new customers, copy & paste 0811MVC6GBPAM :good:

You can always turn the spray bar round so its directed straight at the glass, this will reduce the flow.

One hypothetical solution might be to switch an impeller of a smaller model into your casing.
I have never tried this but heard about it being performed on certain filter units.
The housing and seating configurations would need to be the same or similar though, something you would have to look into.

What if you pointed the spraybar directly down, but then placed an ornament or piece of bogwood there, to protect the sand?
