Hi, I have just got a new tank its the fluval deep 1200 and it comes with the fluval 4 filter, im looking to plant it but even at the lowest setting the filter still produces a fair amount of flow around the tank. Does anybody have any ideas on how the reduce this slightly? :-(

There is a twisting thing for air flow but that makes it worse so ive put it under water and switched it off, got it on lowest flow setting. Changed the angle now so its hitting the front glass at 45 degrees then rebounding over the other side and along the front of the tank where the shorter plants will be, so its abit better.

But anymore advice welcomed! :good:

On the front of the Fluval 4 plus underneath the outlet is a flow control knob. If the lowest setting still creates too much surface movement then you can buy a spray bar kit which can be mounted pointing away from the surface or simply cut a 90 degree albow in half creating a 45 degree angle and attach in to the outlet of your filter with a bit of flexi again pointing away from the surface . You should of had in your fluval package a little adaptor for attaching a hose to the filter outlet !

Hope this helps!

keep in mind that you do, want to have a good amount of water movement so you have no deadspots..i dont know how much movement you get,but alot of folks like to have a filter that can move the water fairly good as long as you dont have too much surface movement.a slight ripple across the top should be fine as long as you dont have a white water type of thing going on and the fish can still move around...dan

Welcome to the forum mattb!

I would personally consider an external filter in a larger tank (210 litre / 55 US gal.) like yours.

There are bargains to be had. Your fish and plants will also reap the benefits. There's less maintenance, more bio/mech media for cleaner water, less visual intrusion in the tank and a spray bar can be used to effectively distribute the water without excess turbulence.
