Red ludwigia growing in patchy?

Hi! I have some red ludwigia doing mostly well in my 20 gallon tank. I have to trim it every 2 weeks it grows so fast. The lower portions of the plant though are a bit bare. The leaves don't fill in very well. Any thoughts?

Lower portions = less light, which = less growth. Same thing happens to bushes and trees.

That is what I was thinking! I’ve spread it out some more, it was growing pretty densely before.
