I was looking at my LR and noticed a funny lookin' hermit. The reason he's funny lookin is cause i've only bought scarlett reef hermits and this guy is brown striped, could be a deep purple i guess...who knows its kinda hard to see right now, but i know he's not red  His shell is pretty big so he either jacked one of the bigger hermits I put in there, or he found it first after someone left it. Anyway, down to my question, is there any hermit that isn't safe for my tank? Meaning should I just take him out to be sure he doesn't wreak havok?

You can have Zebra leg hermits for reef tanks. Ihave 1 in my tank and its a great little workhorse (wish i could find more but they are quite rare over here).

Not all hermits are reef friendly though, make sure about what species you have, if you can provide a picture that would be great.

i have 1 zebra legged also, and he is a right workhorse aswell, i see him moving around day and night, far more than the others, which include red legged, and 2 electric blue's (blue knuckle) another that i dont know what it is,( brown and white striped) who is always out and about also, and a large blue one that i have no idea of either.

I just took a few pics but my camera isn't the best and the hermit isn't all that big so even in the few clear pictures i got you can't see the coloration of this hermit. Hopefully he'll come out to the front/bright part of the tank and come out of his shell more later so I can see his coloration. Thanks for all the info so far guys

There are no reef safe crab IMO. I've seen or know ppl who have had a problem with every crab. Wait i take that back, porcelin crabs seem to have a good reputation and i haven't heard any negative with them.

my reef crab does alot of work, cept my mushrooms doesnt like it when it crawls all over them.

the other crab is entirely lazy, I never see it move much.
