Sounds like a swim bladder disorder, how many gallons is the tank and what is its total fish stocking? Do you have any recent stats for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?
Thanks for response, the tank is about 65USgallons and has 2x angel fish, 3 bala sharks (about 3-4"), 9 albino rainbow sharks (about 1-3" long), 3 red finned sharks (about 2.5" long), sharks get along OK together, 3 pinkish sucker fish about 2" long, the 3 ram like orange fish that are about 1" tops, 1 female guppy andone unkown fish about 3/4" long described below.
It has a biggish filter section with loads of bio balls , a white floss section and sponge in the bottom.
I change about 12% of the water a week. The water has a good 'woody'smell that I have read is a good sign I did have five guppies but one by one they have died and I only have one left.
This is my first tank , at least the one before it was which was only 33 U.S. gallons and had most of these fish in it, til I read the board and went out and bought the bigger tank, only US$167 because I am in Thailand, which is why I bought all those albino sharks cos 10 only cost US$5 and at that time I didn't know about sharks or even that they were sharks.
When I started the first tank I had read about cycling the tank so I did do a rough cycle for two weeks and changed about half the water before putting the fish in. My girlfriend say 'You funny man!' though it is hard here as I couldn't even get any ammonia and testing kits are through the roof. The second big tank I cloned from the filter of the first tank , ran it a week adding some urea (as before) that I read was well liked by bacteria and 10,000 less toxic than ammonia. I therefore have no idea of the figures for the tank that the sick fish is in. Though the other fish look fine including the other two similar fish.
I also had 4 small fish with big chests and turned up wide mouths the first were yellow and yellow dappled black about 3/4" long then I bought two whitish similar ones to keep the remaining one left, company but now only one of them remains, so it seems that my small fish are dying , could the other fish be after them?
The last one of them that died was hanging about the bottom and seemed to have difficulty swimming to the top, even though before these fish seemed to hang about mainly at the top.
I know in the long term this tank is too small but right now looks OK if it was in aThai home it would probably have about 20x 5" goldfish in it! So my fish are doing relatively well.
One last thing, here in the tropics the water is hot, this tank is 30'c even my goldfish tank is 29'c now this is just the way it is for all fish in the tropics at sea level, but it does not reconcile with the views on temperature of board members. What happens in Miami must be the same!l
Thanks for input.
