My concern comes from how much a badis looks like a cichlid; will my ram pick on this fish?

Other way dude, my Badis badis siamensis is the king of my 55 gallon, at 2.5 inches he kicks around my rams, and my full grown pearl gourami. These guys act like cichlids as well, only get around 3 inches, and come out to beg for food after they get adjusted. Don't worry about the badis hurting your fish, all mine does to the other guys is swim in their general direction, and they scatter :p

EDIT: They also eat guppies when they get big enough :D That may be a problem for you if you own guppies

Is this going in a 5 gallon? Don't get a badis if you plan on putting it in a 5, 15 gallon minimum

Actually, this is badis bengalensis, but I'm sure what you say applies. I'll keep that in mind . . . and this was for a 20 gallon tank.

Badis badis are all very similar, I was just using mine as an example :D Sounds good :)

are they about the same size ?

Do you have areas to chill out ? , the badis mainly , like caves and plants and things like that where they can hide out .

They should be o.k. together .

scarlet badis grows to be 3/4 of an inch long . . . that's the only big difference between it and badis badis besides coloration . . . I think . . . anyway, I have created lots of cages w/ bogwood in the 20 gal . . .

3/4" is small , my badis badis badis were that size when I got them and should reach almost 3" . I don't know what to tell you .

With plenty of hiding places you may be o.k.

I think he meant 3/4 longer. :dunno:
I :dunno: either, badis have been reclassified into almost twice the amount of species from when I first had them [ a few years ago.]

Of these species the smallest the Dario , or the scarlet badis , I couldn't find the adult size in the literature I found on the internet . :dunno:
