i was just reading somthing about a man who was using rabbit droppings as you would root tablets and he was saying his results were awsome!

any thoughts?

I'd love to see some more information on this idea. Principly it sounds ok, the practice of it might be a little off. Any chance of more information? Or a link to something?

My honest opinion: I wouldn't try it; it sounds very disgusting. Theres already enough harmful stuff in an aquarium without putting rabbit crap in there too.

Yeah! Like fertilisers! :look:

Seriously though, there is not much difference between fertilisers and rabbit crap, except that we know the exact proportions of everything in fertilisers.. as for rabbit crap vs. fish crap, there really is almost no difference so it is no more disgusting than fish crap (which, by the way, is all over the whole tank, not concentrated into a little ball).

I'm sure it's been used in the past for planted tanks. Since then there has been more nutrient rich substrates available. Cheaper one like John Innes. Also apparently they release A LOT of tannins.

and rabbit poo is soooooooooo stinky...

Gimme rootabs any day...

I tried once with guinea pig poo. I can't recall how well it worked though as it was ages ago (in the days when plants stayed in their pots ).

cheers :good:

A good quality rabbit dropping isn't smelly (much) and shouldn't squish easily, it shouldn't be very moist either. It should be at the point that when you walk over them they scatter like marbles across the floor.

Furthermore if this rabbit poo think works I've got two mini factories in my garden right now, there seems to be a never ending supply of poop from them so!

Rabbit poo is mostly undigested plant matter though and is full of fibre, I can't see how it would be better than a simple compost. However I imagine the nice uniform round shape would be somewhat appealing to the eyes if you didn't know it was poo.

Finally, as odd as it sounds I could probably train my rabbits to take a crap in a fish tank if I put it on the floor, they're actually pretty intelligent and the thought of me having even less work to do when setting up a fish tank sounds great!

Rabbits can be litter box trained so teaching them to poopoo in the tank might not be a problem.

No, not odd at all that we're having this discussion.

The first pass poo is most definately squishy.

Then they eat it and get out what they missed before and it comes out pellet like :)

I can't se a problem as long as you know exactly what the rabbits have been eating. Tame ones would be best of course as you have control over their diet.

Rabbit poo should never be squishy! If it's squishy it means they're having bowel issues, rabbits bowels are interestingly designed or are efficiently to be working constantly, rather than us having a meal or two a day rabbits need food going through constantly. If it's sloppy its a bad sign, the poop they eat is generally just like any other poop and they decide whether they want to eat it or not.

If the rabbit is having sloppy poops then you should really check its tail other wise fly strike can be almost inevitable.

Ironically the food I give my rabbits almost looks like rabbit poop, it's odd there can be poop and food on the floor and I don't know the difference!

Though I still wouldn't use it as a fertiliser, it just seems a bit odd... I don't see how it could be better than just using some compost.

on a lighter note...the face of John Mccain on a rabbit dropping?

Where is this thread going? It's full of crap.
