Quick Question

depending on context,

Alot of people on here refer to the gravel vac as a siphon, however siponing refers to the process of using a hose to remove liquid from one container to another using gravity.....

yep, not a problem....

As i said siphoning refers to the principal of removing water from a tank.

however i`ve found that a length of garden hose (as it has a greater diameter than the gravel vac) works much faster...

they are the same thing,

a siphon is simply a hose....

Making it a bit complicated ? :fun:

Gravel Vac = Siphon

Thanks! All I can find is gravel vaccums around here, and no siphons, and they all look like the same thing!

a syphon is when you use a piece of hose to drain water from somewhere like your tank.

putting one end of the pipe in the water and sucking on the other end will get the water flowing through the tube and if you do it right (eg. suck hard enough) then the water will start to flow out the pipe without you doing anything.

you need to keep the end out the tank as low as possible.

you can buy things that save you sucking on the pipe and ricking a mouth full of water 2.

a gravel vac works on a similar principal, it uses the suction created when the waters bein sucked out the tank to suck all the crap outta the tank.
