Hi everyone

Iv just ordered some java moss.

As I understand it, this stuff grows quickly and spreads onto everything it touches.

My questions are

If it comes into contact with another live plant, will it attach itself to the plant?

And, whats the best way to keep it under control?

Yes it will attach to plants. To control it, just pull it off. It will spread a lot but not like insanely fast or anything. It's great stuff for breeding and looks pretty neat once it gets lush.

Thats what I thought.

I plan to attach it to some bog wood but the wood is surrounded by plants which concerns me.

How about attaching to a flat rock on the ground instead(for a carpet)? I attached mine to my airstone tube and it grows on the tubing now and looks really awesome. It hides the tube and the fish always browse in it!

Thats a neat idea! I think im going to attach it to a rock away from my other plants rather than the driftwood. Im expecting it to arrive tomorrow along with some more plants. Cant wait. Thanks for the advice.

I've never seen java moss attach to any plants before. It just grows amongst like the bases of the stem plants. Once you add java moss its hard to remove from a densely planted tank. It can be done, but takes time. There are worse plants to remove.

Make sure you get mess.
I bought some java moss from ebay. They sent me just the moss and told me they forgot to send the mess.
Java moss takes AGES to start growing . But when it is attached it will grow real fast.
I have not been able to get my x mas moss or java moss to attached to anything.
Its real hard to get java moss going.

Mine didnt grow for 3 weeks and went a bit brown, suddenly i then had bright green shoots every Cm or so, it grows fast because there is a few MM growth a week at every signle point it can grow! I love it! Have noticed it all around my plants though, not too hard to just pull it out and replant it somewhere else

Cool thanx for the great advice everyone

One more quick question.
If a plant spreads out and comes into contact with your heater, is that ok or will the heater damage the plant?

The moss I have that is attached to the air tubing is right beside my heater. No damage to the moss that I've noticed.

Well the moss wont be anywhere near the heater but my Amazon sword is getting very close. Jus wondered if that was a problem? Should I move the heater?

No, don't worry about it. In my other tank, I have an amazon that has had various leaves touch the heater and no damage. Maybe a more tender plant would be an issue, but you'll be fine :good:
