My pair is in the spawning tank, since yesterday. She's in her vase and he's just roaming around her flaring and she has bars and is sooooo fat  He's built a huuuge nest, so I think they are soon ready to go. My question is, I'm going home this weekend, so if I let them spawn today, and take her out later, would I be able to leave until sunday night, if I keep the light on? The heater is doing a grand job keeping the temperature even and it's fairly warm in this room as I leave lights on every time I go for the weekend. Would that be ok? I want to be here and see the eggies too but I just feel they are ready now. What do you think?

I think you should wait until you get back to do it :) I've found they like to spawn in a dim-lit area. I have my best luck when I leave the lights on all day and flip them off in the evening, they usually get right down to it.
It's just too risky to leave them, anything could happen. If they spawn right away and he's left with the female, there is a good chance he could hurt her. If you release her and take her out before you leave, that might work. Maybe they'll spawn right away and then you can leave him with the fry while you're gone. You'll either come home to a tired daddy....or a full failure of a daddy.

wuv,
OMG I wouldn't leave her in there! I would leave them together until they are done and leave him with the eggies for the weekend. I know it sounds risky but I'm so tempted because he's just under his nesting blowing bubbles like crazy and she's completely full of bars and showing off for him and stuff. Do you think that's risking it?

Only thing you are risking are the eggs..and him eating them.

lol @ typing and coughing..type-o's galore , sorry.

Well yeah, but I'm thinking that can happen anyway. Or you say that I just wouldn't be able to save the eggs? Hmm the decisions :X

whoops, I misunderstood :*) You'll be fine then.

( I was distracted by this show on Discovery Kids, this dude was setting up a twenty for a betta, how awesome, right? What a great example for the kids! Then he adds two black mollies, two goldfish, a clown loach, a plec, an angel and then the betta.....uhhhhm, I think I'm traumatized for the rest of the day!)

Aaaanyhoo, I would release them right now, it sounds like they're ready!! Good luck, redbetta! You've been waiting so long!

WEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee toooooooooo excited. LOL I've got some micros growing but not too many so I'm hoping that in a few days if I get free swimming babies that I'll have enough to feed them.

I'm going to start a spawn diary too!

I would go with WUV on that one. Shes the expert after all...But its pretty crucial to have the female out of there b4 the male beats her up...(Abuse)...haha...But to make sure ur eggs are fine u should wait until you get back. Best Of Luck!

Which of your bettas are you spawning? Let's see pics.. or I guess you'll probably post in the spawn diary which I just found.

Did you finally decide to splurge on those aquabid lovelies?

hey. good luck with the spawn! I'm abou to start trying a spawn of my own, so I understand your excitement!
