Hey, it'd be awesome if someone could answer these for me. I was thinking about setting up a tank with only a pair of convicts.

How big a tank should you have? (for a breeding pair)

Is there anything specific they like? (caves, plants a certain way, fine gravel or anything?)

Do you just throw in a male and female to mate or is it hard to get a mating pair?

for a pair use a 30 to 36 inch tank, the male gets to about 6 to 7 inches
the female has a few orange scales on her belly
usual temperature scale is ok not generally fussy over water chemistry as long as quality is good (avoid extremes of pH though)
use hardy or plastic plants and gravel is ok
they usually spawn on a flat stone or the roof of a cave after cleaning it
give as varied a diet as possible including some vegetables
i would grow on a few youngsters then sell the surplus once a pair has formed
hope this helps

I have also found a couple of threads in the breeding section of this site about this check them out
