Hi, sorry but very new to this, I am treating white spot so I have bought interpet anti white spot and on the instructions it says to remove carbon and zeolite (ammonia remover) filter from the aquarium before putting the white spot medication in the tank. Firstly is my Fluval U2 filter one of these? If so do I just remove the biomax media and if so for how long? Thanks

hello and welcome

the U2 does have 2 carbon cartridges, they are the darker coloured cartridges next to the sponges. Take them out and leave all the media in the middle.

Hi Ianho, thanks for that, just one more question, would I have to leave them out for the whole treatment? It says this can take 7 days? Thanks again.

leave the carbon ( white one one side black on the other side ) out until the full course of treatment is up; with whitespot you still need to treat for 7-14 days after the last signs of the disease has gone as there will still be the parasites in the water. If its a tropical tank, bump the temperature up to 29oc as this speeds up the cycle. The carbon is only needed to remove meds from the water, so after everything has cleared up and you've waited for 1-2 weeks pop the carbon back in the filter for a few days and then you can remove it. It isnt needed for anything other than to remove medication from the water.
