at the moment i am feeding my fish once a day with Aquarian tropical flake food. im giving a few flakes(crushed) between the six of them-is this enough or should i be doing it twice a day?

i know i can also feed them live foods etc but wondered if there was any other type of "treat" food to get them? im sure a read on here that some people put a bit of cucumber in?

really sorry for so many questions guys! im sure you are all sick of me by now!(oh, and i do search too so im not just being lazy  )

If they are all getting some, then they should be fine, it should be fairly obvious if you're over or under feeding by the amount you're putting in.
Instead of feeding them once a day, try halving what you give in one go, and give it at 2 points in the day, this aids digestion as it gives them more time to digest it.

As for treats there is live food, veg (some fish wont touch it), and pellets, other little pellets too which contain veg if your fish wont eat veg directly. All sorts really.

Would help if we knew what fish they are.

If they are omnivores or insectivores, they would no doubt appreciate a weekly treat of bloodworm or daphnia. You can buy it frozen or jellied (TetraDelica- they also do brine shrimps).

If they are omnivores or herbivores, you can also try them on veg once or twice a week- peas, lettuce, spinach.

I feed Aquarian flake too; I estimate that 2-3 flakes a day each is about right for my guppies and platies (small tetras eat slightly less), though I split it up in two meals; two meals a week I substitute bloodworm/daphnia/brineshrimp for the flakes, and two meals a week veggies. I also give them a fasting day a week.

Big fish, particularly big predators need to be feed less frequently; fry and juveniles more frequently.

I have a box full of frozen treats in the freezer for mine, aswel as i alternate between the types of food i put in the tank, some day tetra prima, other days flake and sinking catfood pelets,

and when i go to the lfs i pic up some live food.

its always good to vary the diet,

i feed mine once a day and they seem very happy

Depending on which tank we are feeding the food ranges from flake to bloodworm to prawns and shrimps.

If you are only feeding small fish them flakes should be fine although I would get a blister pack of frozen bloodworm or daphina and then you can give them a small chunk of frozen treat every now and again.

If you are feeding big fish then try them on (frozen but defrosted first) prawns or live river shrimp.

We find whatever size we ar feeding live bloodworm and daphina always go down well.

Our cucumber only goes in for the plecs but that goes in whole. If you dont have plecs or only small fish then try them on a slice or two first

Thanks for all the replies. the fish i have are 3 balloon mollies and 3 honey gouramis. i think i might pick up a blister pack of bloodworm as a treat(im thinking of getting a pair of ADF and freaking out about feeding them bloodworm, so it will be a test for me too!!) do you give it to them frozen?

could any of my fish have any veggies? if so, would i need to cut them into "fish size" chunks? or will they bite off what they want? was wondering what pellets i could try with them too?

im thinking of getting corydoras as my next fish so will then be feeding the catfish pellets anyway. would the catfish also need algae wafers?

Corys will eat flake or bloodworms, mine never get the flake fast enough, the others gobble it all up before it even gets off the surface of the tank  so whenever i feed them flake i give the corys an algae wafer, then another time bloodworms because they seem to sink easier and they can get there before the others gobble that up too...hope this helps
Oh by the way..the frozen bloodworms come in a blister pack and each blister contains enough for 1 feed
