Hey,
Im going to be travelling back home from uni over easter, and will need to take my betta with me. the journey's about 6 hours with 2 of them by bus and the rest by car.
Read in some of the posts that I will need to double-bag him into a container with some padding and a heat pad. Just wondering if there are specific heat pads i will need or if the ones you get in a chemist will do the same, and if there's anything i may have missed. Many thanks.
Heres a pic of him aswell, think there's something else in him aswell as vt. anyway, hope the pic turns up.

He's lovely. Sounds a horrible journey, is there no one who can look after him for you

sadly not, friends also going home for easter. hoping that he'll be ok on the journey as must of been transported for a longer period of time to get to the shop.
thanks for the reply, he's great, flares at the phone though so easy for pictures. :)

Wish mine were as agreeable as that to photograph lol. I'd offer to look after him for you as i'm not far but i'd be terrified and just my luck that he'd die on me.

thanks for the offer, same would prob happen with me, not much luck. be the wrong way tho. coming back to southampton from mid wales so about same distance travelling. hopefully will all sort its self out

Hi ya, your boy looks like a round tail to me. As for teh heat packs, have a look and see what temps the chemist ones go too it the get really bloody hot don't use them but i should think they will be fine just pad them out with kitchen towl or newspaper so the heat is less direct. You fish will be fine travelling for 6 hours after all fish get posted and sometimes stay in the box for near on 24hours some even take 3 days when coming from over seas.

Hope this helps some

Get a cooler with a handle for easy transport. Double bag the fish, and get a couple extra bags. Fill this bag with hot, not boiling water, and wrap either the home made heat pack or the fish bag with a towel.

This will be fine for 6 hours, this is what I use for transporting fish in cold weather. I've had styros & coolers in the back of a pickup truck for a couple of hours this way, in 0F temperatures. I do the same thing when leaving auctions with purchases, fill a bag with hot water in the bathroom, and add it in before I leave.

Heat packs cost a dollar, a couple of fish bags cost me 10 cents. This also gives me better temperature control, as some fish like it hot, others a little cooler.
