Hi,

Is it a good idea to quarantine fish before introducing them to your tanks or is it added stress to the fish?

Thanks :)

It's certainly advised, yes :)

Unless you're adding fish to your tank for the first time, you generally want to be quarantining them first. This will ensure that no disease that they may have is spread to you current stock, potentially costing you a lot of money!

A QT doesn't need to be big, 20L would be a decent size and it's advisable to have some media for the filter that will be used with it stored in your main tank's filter. This will mean that to get it set up, all you will have to do is move over the filter media and add dechlorinated water. (and wait an hour or so)

You're a star :)

Are there certain things you should treat all new fish for whilst in quarantine?  Endo/ectoparasites etc?

You shouldn't treat fish for anything you're not certain of, IMO.

Yeah, unless they show signs of infection then you don't need to treat them for anything. Just observe them for at least 2 weeks :)

Thanks very much :)  It's all useful to note down and keep for future reference.
