Hi, after a Ph crash, bacteria crash and a bad infection of ich, I've now got my main tank back to "normal".  However, my last surviving Clown Loach was still exhibiting signs of whitespot so I purchased a 54l tank and put him in there and raised the temperature to 28deg. .  He seems to be doing OK and I will keep him there until he is "clean" of the whitespot.

My local stockist advised that I use sand in the bottom of the tank rather than gravel. However, the water has gone very "dusty" (I imagine from the sand) and doesn't appear to be settling or clearing despite having an Eheim 2008 filter running.  Is this normal and can I expect the tank to clear?

I'm  going to use my new smaller tank as a holding tank for any new fish and as a quarantine tank should any of my fish ever look "off colour"

Just wondering if I'm doing the right thing. Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks

Glen

Did you rinse the sand?

 That is why it's dusty! You may want to take it out of the tank and give it a good rinse then put it back, or do a few water changes. It should settle eventually though.

Yeah, a bit stupid of me overlooking that. I have a poorly clown loach in there at the moment which I don't really want to disturb, so I'll wait till he's better, move him out then do the water changes.

Thanks

Don't feel stupid. Me and my dad did the exact same thing when we first set up our 55g ><
I hope your clown gets to feeling better soon.

He's doing much better thanks and is just about rid of all the whitespot. I'll keep him in there for another week and then if he's still ok, reintroduce him back into the main tank.

By the way, I see we have a chat room; I can't get into it. Can you help please.

This clown loach is really having trouble getting rid of the whitespot. On advice, I have raised the water temperature to 82deg. and have given the water half a treatment of Interpet Anti-Whitespot Plus, which I assume has the same copper base as Cuprazin. I suppose I just have to wait?
