i don't have enough light but the tank tank is only a 5g hex which doesn't have any room for light. I have a 8 watt floresent tube that sticks ou the side of the lid and that helps but not enough

without the right conditions they arn't coing to last long atall.

our tank has had the plants in there now for more than 6 mounths - they aint in the ideal conditions, but they are as close as they are going to get without adding even more light (i've got 120W over a 42gal (UK) tank), CO2 is going well and the root tabs and fertilizer is added pereodically.

Are you saying plants don't live forever if you give the right conditions? I thought they simply multiply all the time!

What plant are we talking about??

I have Anubias where a single leave survive for several years, or the Hygrophila that grow so much that the tank will be overun if left for 2 years?? mostly the cutting get replanted,

If you have to replace plant after 4 - 6 weeks there is something wrong in your setup..?

Exactly! ;)

I have recently added a reflector so my 5g tank has 16w? instead of 8w i have also added the home made co2 injector

CO2 is unlikely to help a tank in that light range. Stick with tough low light plants like java fern, anubias species, the hardy common crypts, etc.
