everything seems to be going well on my fishless cycle, been going a couple of weeks now, a few days ago some brown algee started forming it looked like fine brown hair grew to about 9inches at the top of the tank attached to one of the filter pipes, now green algee has started forming on the glass and long wispy bits are coming off it and floating in mid tank is this normal,do you just leave it in there or take it out(does it matter)? thanks

Use a glass scrapper to remove algea from the sides front and back of the tank, you can buy them from your LFS for about £1.

All it is is that your tank is getting mature and algea will grow, getting some plants may help with this problem. i also read somewhere that you can get moss balls which help prevent algea growth, i have never tryed this myself but it might be worth giving it a go.

Hope this helps

yep its a sure sign your tanks at the end of its cycle. leave your lights on less. 12 hrs a day will see massive algea growth in most cases.

cheers for that, got some plants in there and lights are on for 10 hours with a 2 hour break

maybe an apple snail or some good algae eaters like ottos might be good. i bought my 2 ottos bout week ago soon as i put em in tank they went straight on glass at front of tank and i watched him eating the algae i couldnt even see it that well i didnt have much anyway but they keep it down to minimum so mayb just 2/3 of them depending on ya tank size.
