white male molly. i think he's sick!! but i dont know why, and or what caused, and what it could be

im scared he might die. he's looking very. fluffy. like mold is on him or something, and his tail seems to be falling apart!? i dont know, its really icky looking....
ive moved him to a quarantine tank. but its so weird like. earlier, it looked like he was basically giving up on life, like about to lie on his side and just give up. and he didnt come up for breakfast with the others this morning, either =/

He def has fin rot and possibly a fungal infection. It doesn't look good I'm afraid, I don't think he'll survive the weekend. The important thing now is to do a water change, check the rest of your fish very carefully for signs of fin rot on them, it can be contagious and you may have to treat the tank, but hopefully not. The most common cause of fin rot is poor water quality, is your tank fully cycled? How long have you had the fish? Do you do regular water changes?

i got the Tank Buddies: Fungus Clear. hopefully he'll make it........ =( I added the medicine into his quarintine tank, and into the regular one just in case it caught onto the other fish.... it looks like one of my black mollies might have it too now =( *sigh. this sucks! but yeah.. my tank is cycled, had the fish for about two and a half months now.. and i do like weekly to bi-weekly partial water changes......

do you think they'll make it??

Hi,

What size is the tank and how many fish do you have. Depending on your stock you may not be changing the water enough, the less fish you have, the less waste and therefore you don't have to be as scrupulous with changes. If you are overstocked you should be doing water changes every couple of days. As you've only had them a short time there's also a good possibility they were sick already.

As for you white molly, I'm afriad I don't think he'll make it. I've seen too many mollies like that and once they start to lie on the bottom it's usually just a matter of time, days rather than weeks. Hopefully your other fish will be just fine.

Let us know how you get on, good luck!

10gallon with an internal filter, and air pump~ 3 black female mollies, and 2 cory's, and the 1 male molly - i had him in the quarantine tank with one other bad-shape-looking black molly, and they seemed to get better overnight. the fluff stuff on their faces went away, and looked much more lively. the black molly is seemingly back to"normal" but my white molly seems to have gotten better - minus his tail. other than that... i think i'll do the reccomended treatment again in four days (as said on the box that it's supposedly "okay")
so... would that be alright? hm.. what is actually considered a "new" tank? would mine, being only like a few months, be considered, new?
so yeah. hopefully my white molly will be okay.... but it sounds like everyone has pinned him for belly-up. hah... yeah so i did the tank buddies thing in both tanks just in case. and i moved the quarantined two back into the main tank today.. so maybe 3~4 times a week partial water change would help too?

Sounds good! Hope your molly makes it. Your tank is verging on being overstocked but if you do regular water changes, a couple of times a week, you'll be ok.

Good luck!
