Hi,
I've had these fish for just over a week and I see that one of the Platy's has a sort of string hanging from its underbelly. I'm under the impression this is faeces, however I'm wondering what the cause of this is and how I can fix this so nothing happens to them.

I have uploaded a few photos of the fish so you can get a better understanding: http://imgur.com/a/bOe5V

Thanks!

Have you never owned fish? That is how they poo. If the poo is long and stringy but dark/tank in color it means that the fish may be getting fed too much. If the poo is long, stringy, white/clear then that's a sign of illness. If he's pooing then that's good!

Thanks for repling! What sort of illness' can this be? Should I be worried about it if this continues?

I'd say that looks pretty normal to me. Just be sure to vacuum it out next water change.
