Hello!

I currently own a 20-gallon tank: 0-0.5ppm Ammonia, 7.5pH, always kept at 79 degrees. I purchased the angelfish about 3-4 weeks ago along with some dwarf chain loaches. I feed them once every day, with a day-long fasting period once a week. I was away from home for about 24 hours and when I came back my angelfish had a very small almost transparent mark on his fin. There are no apparent lumps or bumps on him either and he still appears to be lively. (Moving around healthily and swimming up to the tank to greet you)

Does anyone know what this could be? Is it serious?

A 20G is too small for an angel fish. More than that dwarf chain loaches and angel fish cannot be in the same tank. I had to move my dwarf chain loaches into a new tank because of fin nipping - its in their nature. Mine shredded the fins of every single glowlight tetra in the tank they were in. They had all been living together peacefully for over a year and one day they discovered fins. The dwarf chain loaches are lovely and highly entertaining but this behaviour is instinctive and cannot be changed. Since angel fish are aggressive fish this cannot end well.

If you are able to re-home the angel I suggest at least 10 dwarf chain loach. Mine are in a 20G and I have 14 (2 were born in the tank). If you are looking for tankmates for the loaches I can recommend these https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/microdevario-kubotai/ - I think they are sometimes known as neon green rasbora. I have around 20 in the same 20G with the dwarf chain loach.

Here is more info on the dwarf chain loach https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/ambastaia-sidthimunki/

Here is a video from when I first moved them into the new tank (it has a lot more plants now
