pond filter in Clay?

The only plants I have in pots are the lilies, I never lift them. I have a black liner in the pond with gravel over the top all the other plants are planted in the gravel just like you would in a tank.

what about little cats coming to swoop your fish
 
Nitogen you will never have a problem if you have enough plants. Little cats, our girl plays with them but never catches them

I am learning how to repot the plants, and from what I understand if you need specific potting mixes pots are the way to go. Get pots with drainage holes. Lay a scrap of burlap or something similar on the bottom (you want it to let water pass through but not dirt). Put some clay in, plant your plant. Layer fine gravel on top of that so the clay doesn’t get everywhere and make your pond nasty. We do root tabs in the spring and summer.
