That was my thought exactly. The river is constantly flowing, Aka bringing fresh water. Your fish tank is just a cube of water.

@Colin_T also if you’re reading this thread, should I catch some of the wild Halfbeaks? Seems like an interesting fish to keep.

Halfbeaks are small fish that grow to 3-4 inches. If the fish in the river are bigger (say 6-12 inches), they are garfish that normally occur in brackish or salt water, but there are some that go into freshwater.
