Hey everyone, I have a few questions for you. I'm getting a 75 gallon tank this friday, and I'm trying to set up a plenum for it. The tank is going to be a reef tank, mostly corals with some tangs and invertabrates.

NOw on to the plenum - The plan I am using calls for one inch PVC pipe overlayed by an egg crate, with holes in the corners for riser tubes which head to power heads. No problem so far. On top of the egg crate, however, there is supposed to be a piece of nylon mesh, followed by sand, then another piece of nylon mesh, followed finally by more sand.

Where in god's name does one get nylon mesh?

Or, barring that, is there a comprable product I could use? Maybe a different set of plans for a plenum?

If you don't know what I am talking about, head over to the best reef tank site on the net - GARF. Or Click Here to go straight to the plenum instructions.

Thanks

SilentBob,

You don't say where abouts you are - if you are in the USA, I found this site which does nylon screening. If you are in the UK I found this company who might or might not be able to help, other than that couldn;t find much for the UK.

Interesting project, you will have to get some photos of the build and post them up here.....

Sorry, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Thanks for the links!

As for the pictures, I do want to take step by step pictures of the entire tank set up and plenum creation, but I lack a camera. We'll se if I can't scrounge enough money for one.

As for the Plenum, I got ahold of the wonderful people at GARF, and asked about using Fiberglass screening. The answer is you can suplement Fiberglass for Nylon screening, but you only use one layer, because the fiberglass is so much finer than the nylon. So, this also means you don't need as much sand(read: money).

On a somewhat unrelated note, does anyone know of a cheap, or even DIY wavemaker? not a surge system, and something I can make without soldering a circuit board?

Thanks!

SB,

How about this one - two powerheads and a few bits of PVC....

If not try a search on www.google.com for DIY wavemaker and you will get a load of links.
