Regarding the use of salt with these types of fish. They are fresh water and not salt or brackish. Cory's especially will not tolerate salt in the tank. So under no circumstances add salt to a tank with them in. Same as plecs ( corys) they come form the amazon basin, Rio rivers, they are all fed form fresh water form other lakes, streams, etc. The use of salt is not recommended or needed. Even for illness treatment, If you need to add dalt to a tank for treating fish take the infected fish out of tank and then use salt in a hospital tank.
