I recently bought this tank on fb market place as a woman wanted rid of it, it came with a selection of fish including this pleco! Iā€™ve owned tropical fish but never got plecos I think this is a common/sailfin pleco but can someone please confirm? Itā€™s in a 125l tank which Iā€™m sure is way too small or will be soon and itā€™s roughly 6inches and over a year old she said... any advice would be appreciated

hello
my guess is that its a sailfin pleco. If you never kept plecos before here are some things to remember:

1. Plecos are nocturnal, meaning they are mostly active at night. Thats when they feed and should be fead. Feed your plecos when the lights are out and the room is dark. You can feed him algae wafers as well as vegetables such as zucchini, green beans, cucumber etc. Yes you need to feed them they eat algae but can't live only on that.

2. You should provide some driftwood as it is an important part of plecos diet as well as some caves where your pleco can hide.

3. the ph should be 7.0-8.0 and the temperature should be 25-27 Ā°C.

You said you never own plecos so I suggest you do some research about them.

Hope this was helpful

Thank you for your help, I did some research as soon as she dropped them off so I know a little, Iā€™ve been feeding him cucumber and algae wafers my ph is about 7.4 and already has driftwood in the tank, Iā€™m presuming he will outgrow this tank very soon so Iā€™ll probably have to rehome soon him unfortunately, he seems quite cool though

Gibbiceps catfish (Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps), grows about 12-18 inches. Needs a 6 foot tank with lots of algae and driftwood.
