Hi All,
I have had a common plec since march this year I cant remember exactly how big he was when I got him, I just remember fairly small, I know they grow big but my question is how fast do they grow as mine is now 6 Inches if I had to geuss I would say he was no longer than 10 cm when I bought him is that a normal speed to grow in such a short time or normal?
I have uploaded a short video of his size from the start of this month if anyone wants to see him the link is: http://youtu.be/P1n78VmZ6OY

Thanks

Dan

Plecs and Gibbyceps can grow 30cm in a year, so just over 2cm a month.

they grow up to 2 feet and need at leat a 125 gallon tank.

although 175 gallons is prefferd as the least.

Thanks DRB very helpful, does this increase or decrease the more the plec eats and how much algie is in the tank?

Obviously enough, if a fish isn't fed properly it won't grow!

I can't imagine there could be a tank that could keep a common plec in algae on a long term basis. They have to be fed proper plec food as well; catfish sinkers of some kind and/or algae wafers, depending on species; some plecs are more carnivorous than others, although not commons or gibbis (which is what yours is, I think).
