I just bought these fish, and have no idea what they are. To me, they look like some sort of cichlid. The first one is a light brown/grey with a darker brown/black pattern, that are not so much bars as just blotches. The second is a silvery light blue color with black horizontal stipes, but if the tank light is off, he looks like he's black and electric blue. I apologize for the crappy photo quality. Both are extremely fast and I haven't seen either sit still at all. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1) Nimbochromis livingstonii(95% sure)

2) more difficualt as I'm not sure but could be a poor looking Melanocromis auratus

both def cichlids... look like africans, not sure what species though, post the pics in the african cichlid sections

I agree with both, either the aurautus is very stressed, or from a poor strain.

I agree with the 1st but would say the 2nd is almost certainly M.Johanni.

The pic isn't great but i'm guessing the colouration is blue - perhaps you could confirm this cokeshig?

The second one, with the tank light on, looks like a silver color with subtle, light shimmers of blue or even green. When the light is off, it appears to be electric blue. I'm going to try to get better pictures of that one...

Better pictures of both:

It's a Johanni alright - probably just stressed by the new surroundings when the lights are on. Lights off shows the true colouration and markings. :good:

No. 1 is definitely Livingstonii.
