I have had a batch of platy fry in a grower tank for about 4 months and it didn't cross my mind how young platies could get pregnant and I am now worried that the males may try to mate with or have already mated with the females, any advice on what I should do, should i separate the sexes into different tanks?

Also, if they have mated, what am i to expect from inbred fry? Will it cause any health problems or mutations?

Inbred fry have a higher chance of deformed spines and death soon after birth........ that being said almost every fish you buy from the pet store is inbreed. That's how breeders make strains. It's just the way it works. If you don't want more fry then yes you should separate them.

That's such a shame, i really didn't intend on having fry, i didn't even intend on having them the first time but they were pregnant when i bought them unfortunately Will definitely separate and hope for the best, thank you for the advice!
