Platties with Betta

Can a platy be a good tank mate for a male betta? I just want to know.

Should be OK. Are you having more than one Platty? They're happier in a group and probably wont be as easy to pick on that way.

Oh yeah, I'm going to have a group of five platties in with my betta. All I want to know is if they're going to have any problems being in the same tank.

I was also wondering if platties will nip the fins on my betta.

No, I cycled my tank with a betta and 2 platies and they were completely fine. No problems whatsoever. the platies pretty much kept to themselves and the betta just flared at himself in the glass

I have platies in with my betta now. I wasn't really supposed to have them neither. I was just at the lfs, looking at the platies and they were on sale for 48 Yen! (about 50 us cents) So I bought two. It goes on until August 30. So then I 'accidentaly' bought and took two platies home. Since it goes on until the 30th, I'm gonna but four more tomorrow!

I have three in with my male.Once in a while he flares at them but less often now that he is used to them.Sometimes I even find that he's sharing the inside of the pagoda ornament with one of them.I think having them around keeps him from being bored and they never chase or nip at him.

my female was in with platties. they were doing really good, untill the air pump stoped working, and she attacked him horribly because he couldnt breath and looked dead.
