Hey, I came home today and my plate coral looked a little bad. The tentacles don't look as bubbled up as usual and i could see it's mouth? it looks like a mouth down the middle of the thing.

here is a pic

I left it a little bigger so you could see better.

Tank stats are:
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 0
Phosphate: 0
SG: 1.026
pH: 8.3
Temp: 78.8F

It's under 4x54 watt (2 actinic blue, 2 actinic white) T5 for 12 hours a day, is that enough lighting? It is on my substrate and is getting enough flow (the tentacles flow gently back and forth)

All other corals are doing well.

Any ideas?

Water stats look ok. Lighting should be fine for it. All i can think of is its having a sulk because something has annoyed it. Also test for mag alc and calc.
What are you using to test SG? have you calibrated it recently?

refractometer, i calibrated it about a month ago. I am going to recalibrate it!

I don't have those test kits yet, they are in the mail :)

I've been using reef crystals for water changes and I only have this coral, a hammer frag and a leather coral frag, so hopefully not all the calc is getting used up.

You will have some phosphates, I can see Cyanobacteria on the sand bed. You will test 0 due to the phosphates being taken up by the Cyano.

Are you using Phosphate remover, if so, double the dose.

if its mouth was open it could have just eaten something, or was releasing some waste. they can look a little odd when they do that..

have to say it looks perfectly healthy to me!
cracking plate coral :good:

I changed the rowaphos and doubled it. Plate coral is all swelled up and loving life! hammer seems to be happier too!

Thanks, I may be adding a fuge with chaeto or a phosban reactor in the future!
