hi, i have quite a lot of plants in my tank, sorry but dont know what type they are, and just recently i have noticed that there seems to be like hair growing from them, what causes this ? and how can i get rid of this , as it looks unsightly ? is there any fish that will eat it ? i already have 2 bullnose plec's and 2 pink kissers that are suppose to be algea eaters but they dont seem to eat it.

any help would be grateful.

kindest regards

liam

It is hair algae. I don't have this kind of algae so I don't know how to help, but there are many articles on algae. Check the pinned topics.

I often have this problem, but have reduced it significantly by,

1) Buying a timer for my light to limit the time its on. Two burst a day 7-10 then 4-12. No point it being on when your at work
2) Nitrogen remover. Green pad that lives in my external filter (cant remember the make)
3) Phosphate remover (obtained off net)
4) regular water changes
5) moved fish tank away from natural light
6) removed any leaves with the hair algae on

Its a constant battle but i feel im winning!

A simpler method:

1) remove as much as possible
2) do a large 50% W/C
3) Dose 3x the reccomended amount of excell or easy carbo until it has gone
4) do a 50% W/C every otherday

It won't take long to get rid of.
